An Embodied Approach to Being with Trauma, Difficult Emotions & Chronic Stress.

September 6, 2017

Apprentice yourself to yourself, begin to welcome back all you sent away, be a new annunciation, make yourself a door through which to be hospitable, even to the stranger in you.’~
David Whyte

You want to connect.

To know and be yourself completely – to live fully through your body, mind and heart.

Maybe the past intrudes, or your relationships don’t thrive, your body has let you down somehow, or a family member’s health needs have depleted you – but something even deeper inside you is aching to live life fully and bring all of yourself into it.

If feels as though there’s an audible click when you feel understood by someone. It’s as if the whole room settles down and you can be with yourself without worry. Or if they name a truth that has been peeking out from the soil for years but only now can you see it, hear it, give it a voice and a home in your psyche. Your body, mind & heart loves to be paid attention to and our inner truth loves to be named.

I take the time to listen to what your whole body wants to express. We go on the journey together.

A place of incredible beauty opens when we sync up through the body with our own humanness. So much of our innate goodness is revealed through these gentle body awareness inquiries – our desire to survive impossible situations, our desire to protect our younger selves and those we love, our anger at injustices, and our desire to stand up for justice when wronged.

Together we will explore patterning – and re-patterning is woven into our exploration together. We don’t have to be stuck, we can learn the principles of how change happens.  How we move, how we think, emotional struggles, relationship dynamics, career issues, are all subject to change if we understand the principles underlying how we organize ourselves in the world.

There are reasons that we hold ourselves in a particular posture, reasons that we protect ourselves from failure, or even, success. Those reasons are found in the deeper patterns that underlie our conscious mind.

Somatic practices facilitate self-awareness, mindfulness, and communication with your inner self. You can gain access to deeply-held physical, emotional, and psychological information. Once you “meet” and establish communication with these different aspects of yourself, change is natural and effortless. These practices are empowering. They teach you to know yourself better and have direct access to the means by which we learn and cultivate profound lifelong change.

Together we will meet and recognize ourselves through the exploration of embodiment. Each person is both the student and the subject matter. Principles and techniques are taught in the context of self-discovery and openness. We learn to engage ourselves and others non-judgmentally starting at the place where we are. In this way, we seek to find the ease that underlies transformation.

When overwhelmed, we find ways of organizing or crystallizing around events we were not able to resolve. Any pattern in our body-mind is a way we organized ourselves to handle life events. With this understanding of how trauma affects the mind, body, and energy systems – we can facilitate the full resolution and healing of shock and overwhelm in the body-mind.

This can include releasing old pain, widening your range of choices, modulating your sensations and responses, transforming personal and professional relationships, and learning to cultivate the mind-states that generate both healing and development.

When we dive into somatic/body-focused experience we are moving into the unconscious.  Any somatic discipline will help you to learn to navigate the deep waters of your unconscious. This is therapeutic and creative.

I share the inherent wisdom of our unique psycho-physiology that can thrive after hardship. Much as plants are imprinted to grow towards the sun and birds to fly homeward in Spring, our hearts and minds can create a new imprint of profound wellness.

I work with any person who wants to overcome emotional pain and restricted movement, seek recovery from trauma or stress, or become more fully connected in their relationships, and with their own body – beyond anxiety, chronic stress or pain, and live into their authentic self.
I work with adults through the languages of the body, and the body is a place of hope and inspiration.

Even when the mind has said, “I’m sad” or “I’m depressed,” the body still hopes someone will listen or sit near by and hold them with their eyes, or offer them comfort, or ease their way through past traumas, emotional pain, anxiety, anger or bring grief into presence.

The body is an expressive artist with many things to say with many tones and colors. No matter what has happened and what is going on, the body speaks—and in listening, the places of pure movement and mind potential can come together to begin a new way.

Change is a natural state.

When we move towards what is painful for us, we begin to experience the most profound, life-changing shifts in ourselves and our relationships.

Through the process of healing, our hearts evolve from a compromised state of defensiveness and fear to a new capacity for love and power.

I want to share with you that our pain is not something to avoid or be ashamed of but is a powerful opportunity to step into our authentic truth and power.

I look forward to being with you.

Love Kim, xoxo.
