Somatic Body Learning – A Repatterning Process & Practice for Embodied Aliveness.

“Only when we’re brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.” Brene Brown.

The body holds what it can’t express and process.

Toxic stress and unprocessed, hidden emotions from a lifetime of unmet needs and unfelt feelings are living in your body. During our work together, you will learn about your nervous system, and begin to track sensation from constriction to expansion, aliveness and flow.

Finally, you will be able to let go of what your body is holding that it hasn’t been able to process in your life.

When you slow down and take some time to notice when you feel agitated, activated or triggered in your body – you may notice that you feel out of sync and unbalanced. Tune into your body’s innate wisdom and learn to trust your body’s inborn ability to heal.

The body will always inform us, if we listen.

Our body holds the energy and trauma of what we experienced and when we’re able to stop, observe and listen, we receive intuitive guidance which moves us through our blocks to healing and a renewed sense of well-being.

Stress is a normal part of life, and so is our response to it. In times of stress, our heart beats faster, our blood pressure increases, and adrenaline and cortisol (the stress hormone) surge through our system to make us stronger, faster, more alert and more powerful versions of our normal selves.

However, the stress response was only ever meant to happen for brief periods of time.  In the right doses, the cortisol (the stress hormone) that surges through the body in times of stress will help us to perform at our peak. When the cortisol is turned on and off quickly, it energizes, enhances certain types of memory, and sets the immune system to go.

In a chronically stressful environment, the body’s stress response is always on – there is very little relief from the surge of chemicals and the increase in heart rate and blood pressure. When this happens, stress becomes toxic and can cause dramatic changes in the brain and body – but heal is always available.

The body is where we live.

Emotional processes and physiological states expressed through the structures of the body. Through sensory feedback, bones, muscles, fascia and organs/viscera give information about our state of being: safe, threatened, relaxed, anxious, aroused, etc. If the body is sending sensory information registered as discomfort, pain or stress, a person will perpetuate a heightened state of arousal or activation. This can become a self-maintaining feedback loop resulting in negative feelings—emotionally and physically.

The causes of trauma include:  emotional neglect or abuse, family system trauma, physical injury, emotional abuse, sexual assault, car accidents, falls, surgery/anesthesia, suffocation, and other real or perceived threats.

The result(s) are:  PTSD, chronic pain, anxiety, gastrointestinal problems, headaches,  feeling detached or numb, forgetful, chronically stressed-out, hypervigiliance, relationship difficulties, irritability, and sleep difficulties.

Learn about your body from a nervous system perspective. Begin to notice your stress response, bodily symptoms, and emotional or physical pain – and instead of resisting it, feel it – and consider what might be going on with you – what could you be upset about, resenting, resisting or feeling stress about – and this also might be something that is out of your awareness – so you may not know now.

Be kind to yourself and understand that this is the way your body is telling you that something is up for you and that you don’t need to worry about it or figure out what it is, I can just notice it and give myself kind, loving attention – like a small child or pet who needs love and attention.

You can say to yourself – yes I feel you and I want to give you what you need – space, time, love, attention and sessions with a therapist who can help process it. Begin a new relationship with your body and say – I want to give you the attention and love that you need – I love you and I’m listening.

Emotions, feelings and sensations want to move through your body and be resolved in your nervous system, but this process may feel stuck or shut down – and could be resulting in ongoing changes in your mood, as well as chronic painful or numb feelings in your body.

Emotions want to be expressed, move through and be resolved in your nervous system – and our work together will help you do that. Fear and anxiety are often symptoms of unresolved trauma – working with a symptom only, will only cause the problem to resurface again. Together, we can find the root of your fear and anxiety and heal the cause, and you will be feel free from the fear that has been hindering you in your life and relationships.

When you feel anxious, depressed or in chronic pain, your body is telling you that your relationship to yourself is in need of healing. This begins with turning towards yourself with kindness, love and attention, in an effort to move through the difficult feelings, emotions and sensations you may feel.

Titration is utilized as a way of taking small steps to discharge trauma, so you’re not re-traumatizing or overwhelming your system.  It is a process of baby steps that enables you to finally start discharging the blocked energy from your system.  The stuck energy starts to be released in small manageable waves

Your body is a map of everything that has ever happened to you. Somatic healing practices set you free from the emotional entanglements of past experiences. Working together is a process of working together to move through traumatic, chronic stress patterns, relational and familial trauma, and chronic pain and illness.

Relational Somatic Therapy will support you to overcome the effects of nervous system dysregulation at the structural/tissue level using somatic practices and movement to help resolve trapped emotion and energy in the body.

Body Learning is a gentle repatterning process that allows you to relax, learn from your own body, and find new, more easeful ways of being and moving.

Sessions are an invitation to learn about yourself and your body.  You have a chance to discover deep aspects of your structure and physiology, and to develop your awareness of your inner life.

Through guided awareness, movement and touch, I work with the balance of all tissues of the body, including fluid support and the underlying cellular awareness of movement.

I trust the body’s own innate ability to heal and be whole, and I want to share that with you.

Allow yourself to feel supported, at ease, in the flow of your life and free to be who you are in this moment.

Offerings – In-person & online sessions for Individuals & Couples – an invitation to feel present in your body, to unwind patterns of anxiety, depression, anger, hopelessness, chronic stress & pain, to cultivate trust in your moment-to-moment experience, your naturally wise heart, and your capacity to connect to yourself, those you love and the love that surrounds us.

When we can feel ourselves, we are able to detect and understand the sensations and emotions our bodies signal to us – and we can connect with ourselves and others from a place of felt honesty and sensitivity, set better boundaries, and make clearer decisions about our interactions.

I have 2 new openings for clients now – working online – beginning in July & August. I have a wait list for in-person sessions booking on September 4th and after.

Our first meeting happens in person or online (using Zoom or Skype), and we will talk about what is bringing you in and how you are hoping our work together will help. Our first meeting is about getting to know you, discovering your energy, how you want to work together, and asking any questions you have about the process.

Get in touch to learn more about individual sessions, workshops or programs – and to set up a time to work together:   [email protected]

With our willingness to turn toward our suffering, we slowly acknowledge, integrate, and accept the truth of our challenges and losses. In so doing, we open our hearts and experience deep connection to the most precious parts of our lives.

I look forward to walking this path with you.
