Moving Through Midlife Transformation

April 3, 2014

When you’re moving through a time of midlife transformation, you can often feel confused and lonely. Sometimes you feel lonely because a significant part of your past self is gone – and you don’t know who you are now.

Who are you without your ‘roles’?

Maybe you are no longer a partner/spouse, or your kids have grown and moved away, and you no longer feel needed as a parent, as you once did. You’ve been so busy being a number of different roles, that you can feel lonely when you face the prospect of your life without as many ‘roles’ to play.

It’s during this time of transformation that you must look deeply within and focus on the authentic person that has always been there, the person that transcends all of your roles, even the ones you no longer fill.

No matter what your roles have been in the past, who you are at the deepest level never changes. It’s time now to heal hurts from the past and present, and begin to trust and nurture yourself in new ways.

You can trust the promise of your unchartered future, and begin to pay attention to the voice deep within.

Part of discovering who you are now means that you have to face the losses of the roles of your past. You need to take time to grieve, and when you give yourself time, you will begin to realize that you so much more than your roles.

You will begin to realize how much you have to be grateful for, but that going through change is hard. Sometimes you need to heal before you can see this clearly.

Your real self is much more than any role that you’ve ever played. Take time now to grieve, feel the sadness of what has happened before, and let’s create what’s next for you in your beautiful, bold, courageous life.

When I came to you I felt confused, disconnected and broken. Now, I'm on my way to feeling whole. Thank you.

I’m so glad I’m giving myself space to explore what’s happening in my life and to understand my feelings.

I've wanted to do this for a while and I'm so glad I did - I trust myself more now, I feel more calm and open - working together has changed the course of my life.
