When You Feel Disconnected from the Flow of Life.

June 27, 2016

“We do not have to improve ourselves; we just have to let go of what blocks our heart.” ~ Jack Kornfield

When you feel weighed down by the thoughts and stories in your head, you are disconnected from the truth of who you are. When you feel disconnected from the flow of your life, you are caught – trapped really – in a cage of fear-based protective reactions.

When you learn how to be in the presence of your experiences of life without becoming caught up in  habitual, fear-based reactions, you have created a true shift and have stepped into the flow of your life.

Your fear-based protective mind is an internal process used to resist the unpredictable in your life. This process draws your energy into a stream of minor details and reacts as though these things are important.

Your mind responds to fear by latching on to specific experiences in your life and making a big deal out of them, instead of seeing them as isolated incidents in the ongoing flow on your life.

The mantra of the fear-based mind is – here, pay attention to this instead – drawing your attention away from meaningful connection and the spaciousness that’s available in your life – and narrows your focus to fear-based preoccupations.

Then, your fear-based thoughts spin out of control and you find yourself in a perpetual state of fear or anxiety.

A shift begins when you develop spaciousness within your mind (thoughts) and body (feelings & sensations) – as you practice being with your fear-based reactions – and begin to practice more patience, openness and compassion with yourself.

Your entire mind-body system is affected by this shift – moving from reacting to responding, from fear to acceptance, from restriction to openness, and from mistrust to trust.

All around us, we see messages of fear and insecurity – generating self-doubt, and insecurity within us.

When you take the messages at face value, and operate from a place of fear, you’ll find it difficult to embrace the truth of who you are.

Your authentic self can be found underneath your fears, anxiety and emotional pain.

In this moment, take some time to create spacious receptivity within your mind and body simultaneously:

1. Drop your shoulders, allowing gravity to bring them down to a comfortable, restful position.
2. Loosen your jaw. Let gravity bring your jaw to a comfortable and restful position.
3. Soften your gaze. Allow yourself to see without looking. This applies when your eyes are closed, as well as open.

4. Take several easy, deep breaths, and rest in this space for a few minutes.

What was it like to watch the succession of thoughts, emotions, and sensations that routinely clutter your awareness and experience?

Which thoughts, feelings and sensations created the greatest emotional reaction?

What physical reactions did you notice?

As you were simply present, and watched how your mind works, what was it like not to be completely drawn into it?

When you go through a practice like this one, you are moving beyond the fear-based reactions on the surface, and becoming connected to the truth of who you really are.

When you are struggling in some way, feeling disconnected and lacking in true intimacy and emotional fulfillment in your life, you may feel empty, lonely and lost.

To break free of painful patterns, we usually need support – for mind, body and heart – in the form of mindful and engaged attention, conscious body re-patterning and compassionate understanding.

When we’re living on the surface – we lose feelings of hopefulness and energy in our lives, and feel plagued by emptiness.

Yet many of us commonly live on the surface of ourselves, busy trying to control life to manifest our desires and keep away our fears. This keeps us seeking fulfillment outside ourselves, and keeps us truly disconnected from the depth and fulfillment that we long for.

We hold ourselves back from taking the leap into something new.  Our greatness isn’t at all about being successful.  Our greatness is about showing up as who we truly are, and doing what makes our heart sing.

What makes your heart sing?

If your fear, anxiety or emotional pain just won’t go away, let’s work together using an whole body approach for your mind, body and heart. If you are struggling inside yourself with old stories you’ve been telling yourself, getting to the root of what’s troubling you will be very helpful in unraveling old stories and finding your truth.

Being with fear and anxiety is painful, but when we can be with it together – with compassion, love and spaciousness, important shifts and new awareness can arise.

In-person & Skype sessions for individuals & couples – give you time to pause, to be present, to cultivate practices of self-love, to stop running away from your experience & to be with what is. You will begin to trust your natural intelligence, in your naturally wise heart, in your capacity to open to whatever arises.

love Kim, xoxo.

I've wanted to do this for a while and I'm so glad I did - I trust myself more now, I feel more calm and open - working together has changed the course of my life.
