Finding Coherence in the Body – Working Deeply in the Stress Organs and Nervous System to Release Undischarged Traumatic Survival Stress to Ease Self-Protective, Bracing Patterns & Symptoms – Anxiety, Adrenal Fatigue, Chronic Illness, Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain.

“We need to come home to the temple of our senses. Our bodies know that they belong… it is our minds that make us homeless.” ~ John O’Donohue

Our body is always searching for health and coherence – when our breath flows easily, our energy moves freely, there’s less self-protective bracing in our muscles – and a feeling of vibrant aliveness and ease happening within us.

Old trauma and familiar stress patterns – often out of our awareness – can make us feel shut down, numb or overwhelmed. Everything changes when you can be with unresolved or challenging emotions and sensations.

This work happens deeply in your body – using a whole body, somatic, approach and a combination of talk, trauma touch bodywork and movement – to transform survival stress patterns and self-protective strategies living in your body and brain. You will experience more ease and expansiveness in your experience of life—for yourself, in your body, and in connection with your family and community—to be with what you’re experiencing.

Unresolved hidden trauma may be affecting your emotional and physical health. If we’ve experienced in-utero and early developmental trauma, a c-section birth, early surgery, emotional neglect, inherited family trauma, accidents, falls, poverty and trauma that may have happened in the first 6 years of your life.

Trauma often runs in families and you may or may not be aware of what has been passed along to you and how it’s affecting you. When symptoms of all kinds show up in our lives, we often treat them and try to ease what we’re struggling with.

Our trauma and stress patterns begin when we are an infant – if our adult caregivers don’t teach us how to regulate the stressors we feel from the external world and the internal environment of their bodily sensations, which are all new to us.

If we are ignored or left alone in a crib to cry it out – patterns of poor health and nervous system dysregulation can begin. Usually, this happens because our parent doesn’t understand that infants are unable to regulate their nervous system on their own. A stressed out infant may be in fight/flight mode because the parent themselves doesn’t have their own healthy physiological regulation online to handle the stress in a calm manner.

When we don’t learn how to come out of this fight/flight survival response, the survival response is to freeze or shut down. While being shut down keeps us from feeling distress, it also ingrains a deep pattern in the nervous system – that the best thing to do in times of stress is to shut down.

This pattern may still be happening for you in your life now.

This constant fight, flight survival energy, followed by shutdown means the body will become proficient at pumping out the stress chemical cortisol. Too much cortisol wreaks havoc on the body’s cells and organs. It weakens the immune system, promotes inflammation and is toxic to the brain.

This cycle of high stress, shutdown, and secretion of excess stress chemicals puts a strain on us and sets us up for chronic emotional conditions, chronic pain and chronic illnesses that can be difficult to treat later in life.

We also want to pay attention to chronic bracing patterns – unconscious holding in or holding back patterns, feelings and emotions that may feel difficult or chaotic. Being with your feelings in new ways – no longer suppressing them – and allowing feelings and sensations to move through the body. Past circumstances can stay living in your body and pain signals can shift over time.

Certain places in our body may grip and hold on from the inside – as a way of stopping things from happening or being felt in the body. The body becomes stuck in the grip of traumatic stress – holding back your experience. Self-protective strategies must be witnessed, attuned to and allowed to move through and be released in the body. Titrating our experience by clamping down and working from the periphery to the core. We begin working with the diaphragms, joints and stress organs in the body – to attune to self-protective responses that need to be completed.

We work at the level of the stress organs – to help heal adrenal fatigue and chronic health conditions. Nervous system regulation work helps change our internal responses to internal and external stressors. Trauma touch somatic bodywork was created out of a need to help people who were not getting better with general bodywork, Somatic Experiencing and/or somatic-based practices.

Untreated trauma from infancy, childhood, and even in utero and past generations causes the nervous system’s fight, flight, and freeze responses to be on high alert, along with our physiological make-up that acts of it the system is still living in a threatening and scary environment.

The system then responds and defends itself to this perceived lack of safety through its stress organs. The body’s physiology is continually trying to protect itself from dangerous circumstances, even if they happened long ago – and you don’t even know about them.

This survival energy impacts the stress organs: the kidneys, adrenals, gut and brainstem. Working with the stress organs – the kidney and adrenal glands – because chronic stress and early trauma lives on in our bodies – and gets coded in our tissues.

Track your symptoms and stress physiology and get to the roots of what is troubling you with somatic practice and trauma touch intentional practices to directly work with trapped survival stress physiology that responds in times of stress.

This work is gentle, subtle and moves at a pace that is right for you – so you must keep going – healing takes time. A combination of one-on-one somatic healing practice and trauma bodywork – changes the way your nervous system works over time.

Get rid of old, toxic trauma waste out of your nervous system through the process of trauma resolution, learn the language of the nervous system and become committed to resolving trauma in your body, your history and in your life.

When you can release energy that’s being stored up in your body — in your cells, blood vessels, immune system, endocrine system, muscular system, digestive system, brain and brain signalling pathways, and all the other systems that bear the burden of stored up traumatic and toxic stress, you will begin to feel a lot lighter.

  • You feel more ease – less anxiety and depression – in your body and mind.
  • You’ll relate to your partner, family and spouse in a way that is full and deep.
  • You sleep more soundly.
  • You think with greater clarity.
  • Your immune system functions better and you recover faster from exercise, colds and flu.
  • You will feel less confusion.
  • Uncomfortable body sensations become your ally, rather than your pain.
  • You will experience less pain and chronic symptoms.

I am passionate about offering somatic interventions for anxiety, trauma, depression, relationship concerns, chronic health conditions and chronic pain – working specifically with each person in the areas of nervous system regulation, resilience and the impact of traumatic stress on our bodies.

We begin by setting an intention for ease in your nervous system – and get to the roots of what’s happening in your body, mind and health – your body wants to heal itself.

Let’s talk about your experience and how I can support you – and I will answer any questions you may have about working together.

I look forward to being with you.
