Feel the Feelings You Don’t Want to Feel.

Love is the life force of the mind, determining our moods, stabilizing our body rhythms, and changing the structures of our brains. 

While growing up, if our emotional needs are not fully met or attended to by our caregivers – those who imprint their maps of loving in us – this lack of emotional attunement in our lives can make us feel disconnected from ourselves or others and block our flow of energy & aliveness in our lives and relationships.

Our nervous systems have the ability to help us respond to and heal from painful events in our lives—accidents, illnesses, losses, lack of emotional attunement by our caregivers and our collective traumas.

Our nervous system mobilizes us into fight, flight, and freeze in response to trauma, and also to brings us back to freedom when the trauma is over. Our nervous systems are also the pathway for our expanded consciousness, the vehicles through which we can embody all of who we are.

When our nervous systems are open and operating at their full capacity we can soar. Our experience of trauma tends to block this flow.

Our vast array of distractions can leave us more emotionally lost than we ever have been in life. As we become increasingly driven and compulsive, real experiences of peace and calm can elude us. We sacrifice our peace because we haven’t yet worked through the unprocessed emotions that drive us, including anxiousness, worry, stress and exhaustion.

When we stop and slow down our mindless running, experiences of peace can exist for us and underlie our unprocessed feelings. We can learn to safely feel and express all of our emotions, and discover the comfort that can be found in our bodies.

Many of us block the idea of welcoming all of our feelings because we rarely witness healthy emotional expression – experiencing all of our emotions. Without having access to all of our emotions, we may not feel like whole human beings – like we can’t fully express ourselves.

Without darker emotions, there isn’t as much depth and dimensionality in our connection with others. Some of us feel that we can only have relationships or friendships when we are happy and up – and in these cases – our relationships can be painfully superficial.

When we learn to experience of all of our feelings directly, we can discover that surrendering to them is the least painful way of responding to them. We can begin to realize that life that does not have to be pain-free in order to be fully lived and enjoyed. When we learn to be present with our emotions, we suffer less and less from self-damaging flights from feelings. When we surrender and soften to our feelings, we reconnect with the instincts and intuition they carry.

As we become more and more emotionally whole. our health and vitality naturally improve. When we can unburden ourselves of unresolved traumas, energy that is holding the past at bay becomes available for celebrating daily life. Restored feeling enlivens our sensation and cleanses the filters of our perception.
