Beyond Defensive Patterns – Repatterning Your Nervous System for Ease & Flow.
Our nervous system is complex – many of us do not know how it works in our body and that knowing more about our bodies is very helpful to help understand and be more aware of our symptoms.
If there were no confusion in our experience, each moment in our lives would pass through us without creating any disturbance in our body, mind or heart. We could be totally present for, rather than defended against, each situation – conflict and stimulation would pass through us and leave us feeling balanced and centred.
When our inner defensive strategies are happening inside, they can obscure our perception of and response to painful situations, or when we try to hold on, or cling to pleasurable situations, our energy becomes constricted and we become defended against the flow of life. Over time, our body learns to twist away from the truth of a situation, away from the natural flow of things – and we can become stuck in our defensive, tense and tight internal responses that are no longer serving us.
Ways of being in our bodies, minds & hearts began with relational patterns that happened in our families, at school, with friends and within the culture that we live in. Over time, our nervous systems get overloaded with difficult, painful or too much sensory information or trauma from the external world, that we aren’t able to process and work through on our own.
It is the experiences that we don’t want to think about or want to push out of our minds that will remain with us forever, until we acknowledge them, feel the energy of them and process them within our bodies. The old, unwanted experiences that we have disconnected our awareness from in our bodies, stays trapped in that spot in our body.
An emotional charge is held in our body, and our choices, responses and desires as adults reflect the conflicts and survival tactics of our early years, when that unwanted experience began. An overall pattern of constriction is reproduced in all parts of ourselves, and we can contact the hidden parts of ourselves when we understand the interplay between our awareness, emotion and physical sensations.
We never have a thought that does not have a component of emotion and sensation, and we never have a sensation that does not contain an element of emotion and awareness, and we never have an emotion without the presence of sensation and awareness.
